'Prudence will solve Turkey-Russia tensions'

'Prudence will solve Turkey-Russia tensions'

TEHRAN, Nov. 27 (MNA) – Iran’s FM Zarif sent a message, on Friday, to his Turkish counterpart calling for tactful dealing with the case of shot-downed Russian jet.

I am ascertained that tact and discretion of both sides will solve the recently-born problem of Russian jet, to bolster the unanimous front against the biggest problem of the world which is terrorism, said Mohammad Javad Zarif in a message to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Friday.

The Iranian foreign minister also sent his Turkish counterpart greetings for his re-appointment in the new cabinet of Turkey.

Ankara-Moscow relations got into serious trouble after Turkey downed a Russian Sukhoi Su-24M jet inside Syria, on Tuesday, claiming that the aircraft infringed the Turkish airspace.

Russians, on the other hand, reject Turkey’s claim, saying that the warplane had not entered the country’s skies.

Putin has said the plane was attacked a kilometer inside Syrian territory, while Erdogan says it crashed in Turkey, injuring two people, after being in Turkish airspace for 17 seconds, CNN reported.

The incident has heightened tensions in the relations between the two countries.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has demanded that Ankara apologizes over the incident. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has, however, responded by saying that Turkey does not owe Russia an apology over the matter.

"I think if there is a party that needs to apologize, it is not us," he said from the Turkish capital. "Those who violated our airspace are the ones who need to apologize.
